Why You Should Microchip Your Dog Right Away
Micro chipping your dog is one of the least expensive, and easiest things you will ever do to help you and your pet. It is quick and painless. I have to admit, I'd thought I had heard it all until today. A young man, maybe 18-20 years old called me, and while talking with him, he said he would never, and didn't believe in, micro chipping his dog. I asked him why he felt that way, and his response was that he would NEVER let his dog roam free, and he would NEVER lose his pet. A micro chip has to be the biggest no brainer of things that has come out in the animal world since I was born. I have seen stats that show if you lose your dog, and he does not have a tag or micro chip, you have a 95% chance of not finding your pet again. With a tag, and micro chip, the odds increase to around a 95% chance that you WILL recover your pet. Even if those numbers are off some, how could it possibly hurt you or your pet in ANY way to have the micro chip??? After further talking with this young man, he wasn't really able to come up with a valid reason I think, and he sure was in a hurry to get off the phone. Please don't let ignorance come between possibly never finding your pet if he were to get lost. If you adopt a dog from the Lied Animal Shelter, you pet will come micro chipped. If you adopt your dog from somewhere else, find out if he has a micro chip or not. If not, get him to your vet right away, it is inexpensive to do. Please don't think it can't happen to you. I get phone calls all the time with people telling me their new dog got out of an open gate or door. When I ask if they got him micro chipped, they say, "No, I've been real busy and haven't got around to it yet." No one ever thinks it will happen to them. It will take a lot less time to go get him micro chipped now, then searching all over the valley looking for your lost pet. Please make sure you get it done right away. :-)
